follow us! Kauai’s right behind you on energy sustainability

follow me, im right behind you

Speaking of anti-leadership…

Don’t know if ya missed the eulogy for Hawaii Island’s sustainable energy strategy, last week.

That’s right, their council council declined to adopt its central recommendation: adding 3 key staffers on sustainability stuff. No bucks, that’s why…

In case ya didn’t look closely, this was one of the few actionable items coming out of their vaunted plan.

And never mind that Kauai intends to copy them.

Also never mind that Hawaii Island has a huge head start toward green energy with the geothermal plant that supplies over 20% of their power. Their ‘green’ plan is still 30% dependent on fossil fuels. As John Doerr likes to say, “that’s not enough“.

And, Kauai wants to copy them?

Pele save us!

Back at the beginning, I noted that the strategic objectives of the Hawaii Island plan were far too timid.

The need for a dramatic shift away from fossil fuels has only heightened since then.

Now, we’re asked to wait another 14 months for Kauai to get its energy baseline data together and set some goals?

No way, Jose! That’s definitely not gonna get-r-done.

For the record, in the end, I chose not to go down and testify on the Kauai energy sustainability plan yesterday. My earlier post hints why.

I don’t wanna cast aspersions, here, yet nobody downtown is focusing on the fine points…and that’s a fearsome fact.
