3Cs for climate change: count, cut, compel

3Cs for climate change

Forget about carbon offsets, because we need to reduce the creation of these gases in the first place, says a Canadian consultancy.

The 3Rs - Reduce, Reuse, Recycle - have been around for decades, encouraging waste awareness.

Yet the Sustainability Solutions Group feels it’s time for a new, and equally important message to get out into the collective conscious (via socialaction).

"We hope that people come to automatically think to count their emissions, cut them down to size, and compel others to do the same," says SSG.

First, we need to know what activities in our daily lives produce greenhouse gas emissions.

Second, we can achieve significant reductions by making small changes to our house or work space, our transportation habits, and our daily consumer choices.

Third, we can inspire people to take responsibility for reducing personal emissions, insist that our political and corporate leaders do the same, and lead by example in as many ways as possible.

So, here's the new mantra:

Repeat after me: Count. Cut. Compel...
