how “green” is your Hawaii condo?

My guess is, much of the recent island boom in condo and timeshare building went by without much concern for "green design" or "green materials".

Too bad, because now more of the islands' sustainability challenge rests with our existing stock of non-"green" structures.

Still, here are some things to look for (via Treehugger) if you are buying or building a condo in Hawaii.

A Canadian company has created a travelling exhibit, called the Sustainable Condo, that features 60 specific recommendations in products, materials and systems for each room.

This full-size display suite demonstrates how human comfort and environmental responsibility can be achieved by combining smart, innovative design with state-of-the-art green building technologies, materials and products that are available and affordable now, from local suppliers and manufacturers.

The many features of the Condo include energy and water-saving appliances, renewable, recyclable, durable, and non-toxic products and building materials, plus natural ventilation and daylighting.
